A Street in America named after Jayalalithaa

Could you believe it? A street in United States was named after 6-time Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa. Why did that happen?
The Street which is also the meeting point of Chicago Way Avenue, Devon Avenue and North Sheridan has been rechristened after Jayalalithaa. Tamil Nadu CM was honoured in this manner for her leadership qualities and commitment to serve the poor. Then, Illinois Governor Edgar made an official statement in this regard.
Illinois Senator Howard W Kerol is behind this honour for Jayalalithaa. Inspired from Tamil Nadu model, A woman police station was set up in Illinois as well. Even promise was made over implementation of Women & Child Welfare schemes in a similar manner.
You can also find streets named after Mahatma Gandhi, Muhammad Ali Zinna and Gold Mir in West Devon Avenue.
