Paskitani singer Adnan Sami has been granted Indian citizenship. The Ministry of Home Affairs in a statement said that Sami who had earlier been given an indefinite visa to stay in India has been granted with Indian citizenship,

Officials in the Union Home Ministry says Sami will be an Indian citizen with effect from tomorrow. The decision was taken following his appeal to legalise his stay in India on humanitarian grounds. Sami who was born in Lahore first arrived Indian on March 13, 2001 on a visitor's visa with the validity of one year and later his visa was extended from time to time

Sami's Pakistani passport expired on May 26, 2015 and his passport was not renewed by the Pakistan government and it forced him to approach the Indian government with the request to legalise his stay in India on humanitarian grounds. Sami had submitted a representation to the Home Ministry on May 26, 2015 requesting his stay in India on humanitarian grounds.
Sami recently crooned for 'Bhar Jo Jholi meri' for Salman's 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and it was a smash hit in 2015.
