One of the successful skippers of India, Virat Kohli stepping down as the T20 Captain after the 2021 World Cup tournament came as a surprise. The news had created a debate on who will be the successor of Virat in the shorter format of the game. Virat Kohli announced his decision on social media the other day.
Virat Kohli's better half, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma gave her reaction to the news. With a heart emoji, Anushka Sharma indirectly said, she supports Virat's decision and she is happy with the news.
Anushka Sharma, an active person on social media in one of her Instagram stories had shared the statement issued by Virat Kohli about his decision to step down as the skipper in the shorter format of the game. Without saying any words, she had added a heart emoji as a caption.
In the statement that was issued on Thursday evening, Virat Kohli said, the decision was taken to get a break from the game as he has been representing the game and serving as the skipper across the formats over the years. The decision will offer me space to lead the Men in Blue in the 50 over format and the longer format of the game. I decided by discussing with people who are close to me, Virat Kohli said.
"Understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all 3 formats and captaining regularly for the last 5-6 years, I feel I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian Team in Test and ODI Cricket. I have given everything to the Team during my time as T20 Captain and I will continue to do so for the T20 Team as a batsman moving forward," Virat Kohli's statement reads.
"Of course, arriving at this decision took a lot of time. After a lot of contemplation and discussions with my close people, Ravi bhai and also Rohit, who have been an essential part of the leadership group, I've decided to step down as the T20 Captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October. I have also spoken to the secretary Mr Jay Shah and the President of BCCI Mr Sourav Ganguly along with all the selectors about the same. I will continue to serve Indian Cricket and the Indian Team to the best of my ability," the statement adds further.
