I Don't Know Why Kiss Scenes Become Such A Taboo
By: Tupaki Desk | 16 Dec 2017 11:26 AM GMTWhenever a movie is ready for release which has some controversial content, it will grab the headlines. One way the censor board comes up with several restrictions and on the other way some sections of society will resort to agitations saying that their sentiments were hurt. We all know about the hungama going on regarding Bollywood film 'Padmavati'.
It's not just 'Padmavati', there are several other examples like 'Udta Punjab'.. 'Bahumoshai Bandookbaaz'. Speaking on growing intolerance on the artists at the launch of 15th Chennai International Film Festival, Tamil actor Arvind Swamy expressed his sadness. He said that "India is a country which has won its freedom through non-violent movement. It has inspired the leaders across the world like Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela. But now, an expression of art, whether it can be cinema, painting or work of literature seems to evoke a violent response from a section. They are calling for a ban, rework or censorship."
He questioned the protesters "Is your belief so fragile that you are scared of art? Is that the reason why you are destroying it or disrupting it?"
Continuing his argument, he said "Vatsayana compiled Kama Sutra and it is best known for the explicit description of sex and sexuality. Now, two thousand years later we are struggling to shoot or depict a kissing scene in Tamil Nadu for fear of censorship".
