Music: Ravishankar
Cinematography: Anji
Producers: Swethalana, Varun, Teja and CV Rao
Story, Screenplay & Direction: Ram Gopal Varma
Release Date: 1st April 2016
A Faction backdrop film in the combination of RGV-Manoj-Jagapathi-Prakash Raj is certainly going to arouse curiosity. After getting postponed for several months, 'Attack' is finally in the theaters Today. Did Varma leave a mark of his own yet again?
Synopsis:
A Gang kills Gururaj (Prakash Raj) who had given up Rowdyism long back for the sake of his family. Gururaj's Three Sons - Kaali (Jagapathi Babu) wishes to take revenge on the killers, Bhupi (Vadde Naveen) is a coward and Radha Krishna (Manchu Manoj) doesn't bother about the faction feud. After the assassination of Kali, Radha Krishna takes up the mission of vengeance against rivals. Rest of the story is about how he executed his plans.
Performances:
Combination scenes of Manoj-Jagapathi Babu-Prakash Raj were below par. RGV couldn't make use of the acting calibre of Jagapathi & Prakash at least to some extent.
Whereas, Manoj looks different in this movie and performed well in few scenes. He, however, goes overboard in the climax and poor characterization is to be blamed. Vadde Naveen isn't up to the mark. Abhimanyu Singh is just okay. Surabhi and Poonam Kaur has nothing much to do.
Pros:
RGV's Taking
Camera Work
Cons:
Characterizations
Music
Screenplay
Technicalities:
Songs and Background Score provided by Ravi Shankar are outdated & too loud to bear. Anji's Camera Work is laudable in few sequences. Dialogues penned by Sameer Chandra are good but they didn't sink well in some parts. Production Values were decent. Varma's Taking is impressive but Weak Content plays the spoilsport.
Analysis:
Ram Gopal Varma keeps on doing one film after the other irrespective of success & failure. In the past decade, Only Rakta Charitra, Mumbai Attacks and Killing Veerappan have been able to connect with the audience. The common aspect among these films is the inspiration Ramu took from real-life incidents. Varma's mark taking and his style of presenting the realistic subjects has always been appreciated by the movie lovers.
Even 'Attack' is based on a real life story if RGV's version is to be believed. The Filmmaker, however, didn't reveal who's story it is all about to build a good buzz and there is nothing special in the movie to make things worse. Poor Characterizations, Lack of twists n turns and No Emotional Connect makes 'Attack', a very ordinary revenge drama.
'Attack' seems to be a rehash of 'Bezawada' directed by RGV's protege with different casting & backdrop. In addition, Main Villain in both these films is one and the same, Abhimanyu Singh. The only positive would be 'Attack' having better taking than the Naga Chaitanya starrer.
Viewers don't connect with any of the roles and the proceedings just test their patience after a point. While multiple attacks on Hero's Family was focused in the First Half, Hero's Silent Operation to kill the Rivals take centrestage in the Latter Half. 'Attack' is just one more forgettable film from Ram Gopal Varma…Staying away from it is the best thing one could do.
Bottom Line: Its RGV's Attack on Audience!
