Shocking Comment On Ilayaraja's Caste
By: Tupaki Desk | 30 Jan 2018 1:19 PM GMTMaestro Ilayaraja and Director Bharathiraja are the legends of Indian Cinema. Many chartbusters and blockbusters have been delivered in their combination. They used to be like close buddies for a period of time but that's a thing of past. All isn't well between the stalwarts in the past few years. It has come to the stage of openly criticizing each other on public platforms.
After Ilayaraja was bestowed with Padma Vibhushan award, A Media House placed the headline 'Dalit outreach with Ilayaraja's Padma'. This gave an impression that Maestro received the honour based on his caste. Following the outrage, The National Daily issued a public apology but the controversy hasn't ended there.
Bharathiraja commented, 'Some say, Ilayaraja received Padma Vibhushan just because he is a dalit. Whereas, The Composer is trying to project himself as a Brahmin'.
BJP National Secretary H Raja clarified Ilayaraja is already a Brahmin and he needn't try specifically for any such status. He told few individuals are commenting that Maestro is trying to become Iyer due to lack of understanding. 'Iyer (a sect of Brahmins) means teacher and noble people. Ilayaraja is already a Brahmin,' he said.
