Both Theri and Mersal became huge hits for Thalapathy, increasing his market even in Telugu states and in Overseas markets, he became the third favorite hero after Rajni and Kamal Hassan for Tamil diaspora, settled there.
His Bigil trailer released just two weeks before the release on 12th October and as everyone thought, it is about a rowdy's son, becoming football player.
As he couldn't achieve much success, he is given a chance to coach ladies soccer team. They oppose and he trains them hard with his unusual style.
Meanwhile, we see old Vijay going on a rampant rage against other gangs in the city. Even Bigil is known as a rowdy than a player.
Nayantara after a long time returned to star opposite Vijay in this movie. Like Mersal, which is thought to be Atlee's version of Apoorva Sagodhargal starring Kamal, this is his version of SRK's sports classic Chak De India.
Even Shah Rukh Khan, himself tweeted about the trailer and said that it looks like "Chak De India on steroids".
