If we base a story on real-life incidents and make the film then it is called a "inspired from real life" film. If we make a film basing on characters we see everyday, then it is simply a regular film with characters we can connect.

If we follow a person's real life and make a film, it can be called a documentary or a biopic, based on the tone of your film. That is, if you dramatise it is a biopic and if you just narrate story behind their life, a documentary that will contain good dramatic details but with real people and narration.

Why are we sharing all this? Well, few think Biopics are documentaries or docudramas, so a clarity before we start the discussion on how biopics have become the toast of the season.

We have seen biopics of Milkha Singh - Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Mary Kom, Sanjay Dutt - Sanju, and MS Dhoni. And films like PadMan, that were not completely biopics but Inspired from a real life person stofy. Several others haven't become so popular to talk about.

Now, even in Telugu, Mahanati's success made many to think about biopics in general. Already, a film on NTR is being made by his son, Nandamuri Balakrishna in the direction of Krish. Rana Daggubati will play Nara Chandrababu Naidu's role in thr film.

We heard that Mithali Raj, the most successful Indian women cricketer will get a biopic and she asked for Priyanka Chopra to play her role. As she finds her similar to her, in character, in real life.

Kapil Dev, the first Indian Captain to win World Cup and all-time great Indian All-rounder ever, has also agreed for his life to be made as a film. Ranveer Singh will star in the film as Kapil.

In Telugu, YS Rajasekhar Reddy's biopic, the great political leader, who is sadly not with us anymore, is being made as we speak. Malayalam Megastar Mammotty is acting in the film as YSR.

Gemini Ganeshan family announced a biopic on their father to counter some lies, as they said to have been depicted in Mahanati. This will be made in Telugu and Tamil. A biopic on Rajnikanth is also in talks. We don't have much details regarding the film.

Akshay Kumar's Gold is also said to be a biopic of First Independent Indian Hockey coach. Well, with all these films lining up for 2018, 2019 and 2020 releases, the new trend in films seems to be either make big budget epics like Baahubali or a biopic.
