Censor Board Comes Up With New Laws & Restrictions!
By: Tupaki Desk | 24 Jun 2021 6:44 AM GMTThe central government revised the Cinematograph Act of 1952 through the provision that will give "revisionary powers" and "re-examine" the movies that already censored by CBFC i.e Central Board of Film Certification. The Indian Cinematographer Amendment Bill of 2021 got passed as per the latest reports and this will lead to a lot of changes in the film censorship in the days to come.
Under these new laws, the government will be having the power to change the decision of Censor Board under extreme situations. The filmmakers were previously given a chance to appeal against the certificate that was given to their movie but the government abolished that Film Certificate Appellate Tribunal.
We usually witness films being categorized under U, U/A and A. While U means Unrestricted public exhibition, U/A means requires parental guidance for children under 12 and A stands for only adults. In the latest draft, the U/A category has been split into three types which are U/A for 7+, 13+ and 16+. A new set to guidelines and laws were given for content generated on OTT platforms too.
