Centre announces a waiver of custom duty on imported vaccines!

At the time when India is battling the unprecedented rise in Coronavirus infections caused by the second wave, the Union Government announced a waiver of custom duty and health cess on the Covid vaccines and oxygen that are imported.
The waiver will come come into immediate effect and will be in effect for a period of three months.The oxygen generators, storage tanks, filling systems and concentators will be barred from the excise duty.
The Union Government announced the same after Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a key meeting with key officials on Saturday.
A nodel officer was also appointed a nodel officer, who will look into the issues pertaining to the clearance of custom duty and other issues.The centre said that the new decision will make the medical items cheaper.
Earlier, the Union Government has cleared Russia's Sputnik V vaccine for use in India, which is expected to be made available in the country soon.
Russia's Sputnik V will be the third vaccine in India after Covaxin, developed by Hyderabad based Bharat bio tech and Covishield, developed by Pune based SII.
