Centres New Directives To OTTs On Anti-tobacco Warnings!
Tobacco is one of the major causes of death across the globe as it caused many diseases like cancers, heart disease, lung diseases, and others. The Cigarette packets have ads warning consumers about the negative effects. However, the ads on Cigarette packets are not stopping people from consuming them.

To create more awareness, no-tobacco and no-alcohol ads started airing in Theatres and on Television. When there are any scenes of drinking and smoking, we see a disclaimer saying that they won't support consumption and that smoking and drinking are injurious to health.

Now the OTT platforms should also display Anti-Tobacco ads and this is mandatory. New guidelines were also announced for the ads and the OTT platforms were directed to follow them without fail.

The Health Ministry announced the new guidelines saying that the OTT platforms should display ads against tobacco and alcohol. If the guidelines are not followed strict action would be taken against the production house and the crucial members of the film unit.

The Health Ministry said that changes were made to the (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply, and Distribution) Rules, 2004, (COTPA) to make it mandatory for the OTT platforms to display the ads.

OTTs became a big source of entertainment to people post the Covid emergence. People regularly use some or the other OTT platform for entertainment. If the ads are displayed on the platforms we can expect that there would be a good impact.
