Combination Craze Also Couldn't Save The Movie
By: Tupaki Desk | 20 Oct 2018 7:45 AM GMTNagarjuna even though has lost most of his market due to his insistence on experimentation, he proved time and again that he has a good crowd pulling capacity.
So, when he is combined to star in a movie with another young star like Nani, many would have thought that even an average film will fare well at the box office. Nani has a good 20 crores market and Nag on his own could pull upto 35 to 40 crores on regularity when movie is good.
The problem is that for both of them to cross 35 or 40 crores mark, movie needs to be good and can't be an average fare. Nagarjuna did deliver three big hits like Manam, Soggade Chinni Nayana and Oopiri even in off-season and full competition in season, recently. But RGV and K. Raghavendra Rao, directors who gave him memorable films did give his biggest disasters ever, that too very recently.
For Nani, he is a content based star but not a star like Mahesh or Jr. NTR, who can pull up mind-blowing initials. Also, before Devadas release he gaanee bad name as host to some effect and delivered his first flop after 7 hits.
Even in those 7 hits, 5 of them are hits but they collected around 25-28 crores region only. Except for Nenu Local and MCA, went onto cross 30 or 35 crores mark. So, distributors and producers over-estimated the movie and hence bought it for Rs. 38 crores.
The movie run has come to close at the box office and the new releases won't allow it to pick up, this late either. Movie had it been sold below 30 crores, it could have been profitable venture for all parties.
But with just Rs. 28.5 crores share (almost full run) the movie ended up a commercial failure with Rs. 9 crores and above loss to distributors as per box office Pundits. What numbers will producers announce or will they ever announce? We will never know!
