Content Becomes The King In 2022!

While there were hints about the audience becoming more interested in content-oriented films earlier, things became quite clear after the pandemic. The movie lovers are no longer interested in mediocre movies even though it has big stars in it. They are looking for quality content that will grab their interest or make them awestruck. Films with poor content are not even getting encouraged in OTT platforms which explains a lot of about the change in behavior.
Bollywood has been severely affected due to this. We have seen Akshay Kumar deliver six flops within a year and even Ranveer Singh's two films ended up in losses. Salman Khan and Aamir Khan's films were not liked by the audience and there are many such big names in Bollywood who failed to get a hit. Even heroes like Prabhas, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and other big heroes bagged disasters in recent times. On the other hand, this year is filled with surprise hits that were successful only because of their content and not star power.
Keeping biggies like 'RRR' and 'KGF' aside, a lot of movies that were made on a limited budget turned out to be very successful at the box office. 'Kashmir Files' came without any noise and ended up earning more than 250 crores. 'Pushpa' might be a big film in the South but it earned over 100 crores with zero promotions in the Hindi market. 'Karthikeya 2' was released as a regular film but it crossed the 100 crore mark and was appreciated all across the nation. The recent Kannada film 'Kantara' is another big example of it. The movie already crossed 200 crores of collections and is getting high praise from the North as well as the South.
Rakshit Shetty's 'Charlie 777', Kamal Hassan's 'Vikram', the classic love story 'Sita Ramam' and others got good collections in other languages they got dubbed too. These movies turned out to be huge blockbusters. Even 'Bimbisara' was a surprise hit in Telugu. This clearly shows that star power alone is no longer enough to drag the film towards success. A solid story, strong narration and impactful performances is the success formula. Hope that it continues like this and the audience gets blessed with more of such content.
