Sony Television's popular TV Soap 'Pehredar Piya Ki' has gone off air after receiving criticism for allegedly glorifying child marriage.
In 'Pehredar Piya Ki', A 10-Year-Old Boy marries a 19-Year-Old Woman. This concept stirred a controversy as the legal age of marriage for women & men in India is 18 and 21 respectively.
Information & Broadcasting Ministry received many complaints against this Hindi TV Serial. Even Change.org Petition signed by over 50,000 people was moved seeking it's ban. Following which, Producers of the TV Soap & Channel Management were directed to change the show timings from prime time to late night slot and run a disclaimer as well.
Finally, Sony Entertainment Television has voluntarily shelved 'Pehredar Piya Ki' within two months after it had gone on air to put an end to the negative campaign. A statement was issued confirming the latest development.
