Dhanush is one of the finest actors down South. Last year, He scored his first success in Telugu with 'Raghuvaran B.Tech'. However, None of his recent films including 'Nava Manmadhudu' and 'Rail' has hit the right chord with the audience. He now arrives with 'Dharma Yogi' which have a political backdrop. Will it be the second success of Dhanush?
Synopsis:
Dharma (Dhanush) & Yogi (Dhanush) are Twins who choose different paths. While Dharma leads the life of a College Professor, Yogi continues his Father's Legacy as a Politician and falls in love with a ruling party leader Rudra (Trisha) though he belongs to Opposition Party. Twist in the tale comes in the form of election in which Yogi & Rudra are fielded against each other by their parties. It was then Yogi gets killed. In such a situation, Dharma gets into the shoes of Yogi to chase the mystery behind his Brother's death. In the process, He also achieves the political goal set by Yogi.
Performances:
Dhanush has proved his mettle as an actor on many occasions. 'Dharma Yogi' will be a special movie in his career as he has done a dual role for the first time. Showing good variations in the looks, mannerisms and body language, He has done complete justice to both the characters.
Its not an exaggeration to say Trisha has given her career-best performance in 'Dharma Yogi'. This movie explores an unseen dimension in the petite beauty. The role was etched so well and Trisha excelled in the role of a politician.
Anupama Parameswaran has done a fine job. Rest of cast were adequate.
Pros:
Trisha
Twists
Background Score
Direction
Cons:
Tamil Flavour
Technicalities:
Songs composed by Santhosh Narayanan are alright. But, Lyrics aren't catchy and Tamil Flavour is evident. Yet again, The composer mesmerizes with the Background Score. Camera Work by Venkatesh is good. Production Values are as per the requirement. Director Durai Senthil Kumar focussed mainly on the story though he have a big star as a hero. Story & Screenplay provided by him are the major strengths of 'Dharma Yogi'. He tried to be a bit different from other filmmakers & placed the twists without compromising the pace. On a finishing note, 'Dharma Yogi' is a Director's Movie!
Analysis:
Dhnaush is a Star in Tamil Nadu and commands a huge following among the masses. Usually, He picks up subjects with which common man can relate to or connects instantly. Even if its a commercial potboiler, Dhanush doesn't compromise on the story & 'Dharma Yogi' proves it yet again. Its the solid story, racy screenplay and commendable performances which leave a big impact on the audience.
Thrillers with political backdrop is a genre that's rarely attempted down South. 'Dharma Yogi' falls in this category. If ignored the Tamil nativity, Actors who aren't familiar to the Telugu audience and few unwanted scenes, This Dhanush-starrer will certainly impress the viewers. Without compromising on the commercial elements, Director has done magic with his mark story telling. Racy Screenplay & Unexpected Turns keep the audience engaged throughout.
'Dharma Yogi' is a film based on the concept that politicians would go to any extent to achieve their goals. Director has etched out all the lead characters pretty well. Particularly, Dhanush steals the show in the role of Yogi. Trisha's character is the surprise element in the movie. Scenes of their love story were executed nicely. Interval Bang is something the viewer never expects.
Compared to First Half, Second Half slightly disappoints but the Twists have worked to a great extent. Unraveling the mystery behind Yogi's murder raises curiosity of the viewer. Trisha's scenes in the pre-climax have come out perfectly. But, The Climax could have been better. Overall, 'Dharma Yogi' is an engaging political thriller. Its a film for those who love watching serious subjects & people craving for entertainment will be left disappointed.
Bottom Line: Worth Watching Once!
