If you are familiar with the business of cinema then you know for a fact that the biggest evil eating away the revenue is piracy. Though filmmakers have been moving heaven and earth to curb it, the efforts are not bearing the required result.

Online piracy has become the biggest threat for films as the pirated versions are uploaded on the very next day of the theatrical release. Now Mani Ratnam’s latest film OK Kanmaani also facing threat of piracy and the film’s producer –director mani Ratnam approached court to stop this.

Mani Ratnam has moved the Madras High Court by filing a civil suit on piracy of his film via 14 intermediaries including google. In the suit, he had sought a permanent injunction restraining 14 mediums including Google India, YouTube, BSNL, MTNL, Air Tel, Aircel, Vodafone, Reliance Communications from infringing his copyright on his film any manner.

In his petition, Mani Ratnam said the government had failed to check the distribution of pirated materials on the internet. The original version of the film was pirated and disseminated through CDs, Blue Ray discs and other information and technology systems. Hence Mani got an interim stay on the intermediaries like Airtel, Aircel, google and others. When the matter came for hearing, Justice K Ravichandra Babu granted an interim stay.
