Director Shankar had to deal with successful films and flops but he never had to deal with on set accidents of the magnitude that happened on Indian-2 sets.

The director was shell-shocked by the incident as he narrowly escaped death himself and he is grief-stricken as three of his crew, young talented people lost their lives.

He announced one crore compensation to the families of the bereaved and wrote an open letter, describing his grief with regards to the three talented young men who died on the day.

Director Shankar wrote, "The death of Krishna, who joined my team as an Assistant Director just a month, back has completely shaken me. It is hard to find a good assistant director. Within a few days, Krishna understood the magnitude of this huge project and excelled in his work. It was unfortunate that my satisfaction in having found a promising assistant director didn’t last long. His mother’s tears and anguish when I met her at Krishna’s home that day still haunts me."

"I am unable to overcome this terrible mishap that fell upon us in spite of several precautions and safety measures implemented. The loss of these lives torment me more than the thought that I was miraculously saved. Looking at the sufferings and sorrow that this accident has afflicted on the families of the departed, the injured, their families, the workers and all those involved, I feel that it would have been better if the crane had fallen on me," continued Shankar in his letter.

He said that he will do everything in his power to see that such accidents will never repeat again asking for forgiveness from the families of the three who died. He remarked that he can never bring them back and that will remain a burden on his shoulders forever.

Kamal Haasan already announced one Crore compensation and Subaskaran, producer from Lyca Productions, announced Rs. 2 crores compensation to the families. All of them, agreed to cooperate with the police in their investigation and Shankar even attended the interrogation at a Chennai PS.
