Most of New Releases during the Independence Day weekend were disappointing to say the least. Just have a look at how they performed...
'Babu Bangaram' had a fabulous Day 1 (Rs 6.78 crore Worldwide), making it the biggest opening in Venky's career. Thanks to brand Maruthi! However, There is a huge drop in revenue from Day 2 due to weak content and it only gets worse during weekdays.
'Thikka' is no way going to recover the investment. The execution of this subject is so poor that it mayn't be able to collect even half of 'Supreme' full run collections.
'Mohenjo Daro', the historical subject in the deadly combo of Hrithik Roshan and Ashutosh Gowarikar, went on to become a colossal flop. With an opening day revenue of Rs 8.87 crore in India, There is no way Distributors and Exhibitors escape hefty losses as more than Rs 150 crore is at stake.
The only relief would be the impressive start of 'Rustom'. This Akshay Kumar and Ileana starrer collected Rs 14.11 crore on Day 1 in India alone. It is the fourth highest opener of 2016, after Sultan (Rs 36.54 crore), Fan (Rs 19.20 crore) and Houseful 3 (Rs 15.21 crore). 'Rustom' might collect anywhere around Rs 75 crore in the First Week.
