OTT: Disney Hotstar Beats Amazon Prime Video And Netflix

OTT streaming platforms have never been more prevalent than they are now. Top OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, ZEE5, and Disney Hotstar have witnessed a stellar growth in viewership and subscriptions. With as many as 2.50 crore paid subscribers, Disney Hotstar stands atop. Amazon Prime Video comes second on the list with 1.70 crore paid subscribers. Sony Liv, which has been making swift inroads in the OTT market by producing more regional content, aimed at Telugu and Tamil audiences has 70 lakh paid subscribers. The blockbuster success of Scam 1992 web series altered the course of Sony Liv for good. The platform witnessed record subscriptions after this series premiered and received a whole lot of attention from digital audiences.
Netflix, which tops the global OTT lists in regard to paid subscribers is settling with 4th position in the Indian OTT market. The platform has 46 lakh paid subscribers. But with the substantially high subscription charges, when compared to its OTT rivals, Netflix generates the highest amount of revenue for any OTT service in the country. Last on the list is Zee5, which has 40 lakh paid subscribers. Zee5 too is focusing on regional content now and they own the digital rights of Telugu films like Republic and Sridevi Soda Center. The platform is also focusing on the theatrical market in the Telugu states.
Aha Video is on course to enter the list of top OTT platforms. The platform offers Telugu content and it has been setting up interesting projects of late. Its statistics are undiclosed though.
