Whenever a Tamil Actor earns a good image with a prominent role in Telugu Films, Producers and Distributors see it as an opportunity to dub his movies and release them simultaneously. Satyaraj earned a place in the hearts of Telugus with the role of Kattappa in 'Baahubali - The Beginning'. Now, His Tamil flick 'Jackson Durai' is being dubbed in Telugu as 'Dora'.

Synopsis:

A bungalow in Doraipuram village is haunted by ghosts since the British era. People of this village remain indoors after 9 pm out of fear. Vijji (Bindu Madhavi) who the Daughter of Village Head forwards a petition to Government seeking a solution for the spooky happenings. Subsequently, SI Satya (Sibiraj) was deployed to this village for chasing the mystery. In the process of finding untold facts, Vijji and Satya fall in love. When they convey this to the Village Head, He asks the Cop to spend one week in the haunted bungalow for marrying his Daughter. Then, Satya goes to the bungalow along with his Close Buddy. What consequences did the duo face? Were they able to accomplish the task successfully? Watch this Horror Comedy in theatres to know more..!

Performances:

Every role can't be as impactful as that of 'Kattappa' and 'Dora' proves it. Sathyaraj's character wasn't etched properly and hence the necessary impact goes missing. He, however, does well in few scenes as Ghost.

Sibiraj (S/O Sathyaraj) played the lead role, Satya. Watching this movie, One can realize why this Star Kid failed to establish himself as a Hero at least in Kollywood till date. Neither looks wise nor performance, Sibiraj scores brownie points.

Bindu Madhavi appears in a less significant role. Karunakaran does complete justice to his role. Rajendran is alright.

Pros:

Background Score

Cinematography

Production Values

Cons:

Hero Sibiraj

Direction

Technicalities:

Technically, 'Dora' is sound. Background Score by Siddharth Vipin is too good. Yuvraj's Camera Work is splendid. Dialogues were decent enough. Production Values have been rich. Director Dharanidharan has picked up a unique story but falters in narration. He appeared to be in a state of dilemma while handling few crucial sequences and that makes them look silly onscreen.

Analysis:

'Horror Comedy' is the most successful genre in the past five years. Telugu and Tamil Filmmakers have already delivered a lot of such films and it has reached a saturation point. Film Buffs have been vexed watching the same template 'Haunted Bungalow-Flashback-Elimination of Ghost' repeatedly. Hence, Several projects have been biting the dust off late.

The only difference between other Horror films and 'Dora' would be the presence of 'English' Ghosts and their battle with 'Indian' Ghosts. British era backdrop and Ghosts behaving alike memory loss patients sets 'Dora' apart from Comedy Horror films released so far. However, Director didn't succeed in utilizing these promising elements to the fullest.

Screenplay of 'Dora' is silly to say the least. Predictability & Illogical Scenes only ruin the whole movie-watching experience. Neither First Half nor Second Half keeps the audience engaged. Viewers don't get scared by watching the Ghosts and hence the humor wasn't generated. Only very few scenes tickle the funny bone.

Audience who expect Sathyaraj to carry the film on his shoulders get disappointed. He actually have a screen time of only less than an hour. Shockingly, This veteran failed to leave a mark of his own this time even though his new avatar is quite impressive. The flashback depicting British era has been poorly picturized, except for the battle sequence. Even Climax is pretty ordinary. Telugu Audience mayn't embrace 'Dora' as Sathyaraj wasn't at his very best in this case.

Bottom Line:
Kattappa deserves much better role!
