The Mummy shows no magic!
By: Tupaki Desk | 10 Jun 2017 6:56 AM GMTTom Cruise, aged yet viable global superstar decided to join hands with Universal Pictures in launching their Dark Universe as part of the Monster films the studio wants to make starting with his Mummy. Many of us do remember the big budget horror fantasy trilogy Mummy that made Brendon Fraser into a star.
Though the film released in 1999 is not the first on Mummies it is the most popular among the films. Those films had Rachel Waisz in the first two films, propelling the glam quotient of the movies along with her acting skills. The comedy in the movies worked big time but here that did not land properly. Critics panned the movie as a useless and purpose less attempt trying to setup a world of movies like Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Comics.
In the movie, there is gladiator star, Russel Crowe in a great role but the movie doesn't have the same sense of adventure and witty humour that made Mummy series highly popular. Also, Critics opined that the VFX work in almost every frame did not help the movie much and even though Tom Cruise could sell the action scenes and he is the highlight of the movie, none of the lead actresses could prive to be on par with Rachel Weisz and others from original. The priest villain in the original had a great back story but this one made no sense as per the critics. Looks like, Tom Cruise delivered another flop at the box office.
