Mohan Babu hasn't been doing films regularly in the past decade or so. After a long gap, He played a full-length hero role in 'Gayatri'. Actually, Collection King has done a dual role in this Madhan-directorial. Let's see what it is all about...
Synopsis:
Shivaji (Mohan Babu), an actor, who is in search of his missing Daughter since many years runs an orphanage. He earns money by coming to the rescue of Politicians who are about to face jail term. Just when he comes to know about the whereabouts of his Daughter, Shivaji gets trapped by a ruthless criminal Gayatri Patel (Mohan Babu). What does Gayatri Patel expect Shivaji to do? Was Shivaji able to escape from the trap and has he met his Daughter? Watch 'Gayatri' to kind answers!
Performances:
Mohan Babu yet again proves how good an actor he is with 'Gayatri'. As Gayatri Patel, A terrific job has been done by him. He also leaves a mark of his own during the emotional scenes involving Shivaji character. It's not an exaggeration to say Collection King has done a one-man show here.
Nikhila Vimala plays her character to perfection. Manchu Vishnu & Shriya are just okay in the flashback episode. Ali, Siva Prasad, Pruthvi and Others does justice to their roles.

Music composed by SS Thaman is alright. 'Oka Nuvvu Oka Nenu' song is heart-touching but none of the other tracks are good enough. Background Score is okay. Cinematography by Sarvesh Murari is fine. He does well in the picturization of flashback episode and 'Oka Nuvvu Oka Nenu' song. Production Values are good. Though the subject have potential, Madhan wasn't able to execute it so effectively. He failed to establish the roles properly and focussed more on unnecessary elements.
Analysis:
Nobody would dare to question or doubt the acting calibre of Mohan Babu. However, The past decade hasn't been productive for him as an Actor. 'Yamadonga' (2007) was the last film of Mohan Babu to receive people's unanimous acceptance. Barring 'Rowdy', He has neither done the roles which match his stature nor played full-length characters in the recent past. That's why 'Gayatri' is like a treat for all those who admire him!
On paper, 'Gayatri' is a solid subject and it has got good emotional depth but Director Madhan failed to narrate it effectively. He mostly focussed on the elevation of Mohan Babu rather than the actual story & hence audience don't connect with the subject much in the first half. Unwanted Songs, Fights, Dialogues and Elevation Scenes use most of the run time. Who expects songs and fights from Mohan Babu at this age?
Story hardly moves forward in the First Half. Dialogues uttered by Mohan Babu, particularly on the present political system, hits the right chord with the audience though they looked forced. Second Half begins with flashback featuring Vishnu-Shriya but the sentiment isn't so effective. Pace in the Screenplay picks up only after the entry of Gayatri Patel. This role raises the curiosity but Director didn't establish it properly and relied mostly on dialogues. Mohan Babu's physique and screen presence suited the character perfectly. He reminds the viewers of 'M.Dharmaraju M.A' in few sequences.
'Gayatri' looks interesting for sometime after Shivaji & Gayatri Patel interact with each other. It engages the viewers towards the end of Second Half. Overall, Hardcore Fans would be pleased to see Mohan Babu in a full-length role with substance but others mayn't find it worth watching.
