Venkateshrn is the most luckiest among Tollywood Heroes when it comes to Remakes. rnHe have more hits to his credit than any other star in this aspect. So, rnPeople were eagerly waiting for 'Guru' to hit the screens since they rnwatched his complete transformation in the trailer and promo songs. Thisrn sports-based flick released Today amidst good expectations. What could rnit offer?
Synopsis:
Aditya rn(Venkatesh), a boxing coach, faces many hardships because of his rnstraight forward approach and short temper. He gets transferred from rnDelhi to Vizag because of the politics in the Boxing Association. One rnfine day, Aditya spots the hidden talent in slum girl Ramudu (Rithika rnSingh) and begins the training sessions with her. Things get complicatedrn when Ramudu irritates Aditya with her aimless attitude. What happens rnnext is how the Coach moulds the Slum Girl and make her a Boxing Champ.
Performances:
Notrn an exaggeration to say, Venkatesh has given his career-best performancern in 'Guru'. Even those people who watched the original 'Saala Khadoos' rnwill appreciate Daggubati Hero for the kind of transformation he has rngone through. And the ones who hadn't seen the original would be rnmesmerized with Venky's performance. Particularly, He is marvelous in rnthe scenes depicting his aggression. His facial expressions during the rnpre-interval sequence are praise worthy.
Audience can't imagine rnanyone else in the role of Rithika Singh after watching 'Guru'. Such is rnthe impact she creates as a wannabe Boxer. Being a professional boxer rnand martial arts training helped her to get into the skin of the rncharacter. It was her performance which makes the audience realize how rnthe life of a boxer is going to be like. However, Dubbing offered for rnRithika's role could have been better.
Mumtaz does a fine job as rnLux. Zakir Hussain is first rate in the negative role. Nasser is very rnimpressive. Tanikella, Raghu Babu and Anitha Chowdary are alright.
Pros:
Venkatesh's Makeover
Rithika Singh's Performance
Music
Direction
Cons:
Pace of the Movie
Technicalities:
Musicrn composed by Santhosh Narayana is an asset for 'Guru'. 'Jingidi Jingidi'rn & 'Oye Sakkanoda' were instant hits. Background Score has elevated rnthe scenes to a great extent. Cinematographer Shaktivelu does a rnbrilliant job, especially during the Boxing Matches. Dialogues penned byrn Harshavardhan are just perfect. Production Values are appreciable. rnDirector Sudha Kongara deserves a standing ovation for the way she rnpresented this sports-based flick. She succeeded in moving the audience rnemotionally and inspiring them. It's a big surprise to know someone who rndirected a film like 'Andhra Andagadu' in the past wielded megaphone forrn 'Guru'. Not many of the Women Directors were able to deliver such an rnimpactful film till date.
Analysis:
Inrn Tollywood, We hardly get to see Sports-based Films dealt with in a rnrealistic manner. 'Ashwini' (1991) is the last such attempt in TFI. rnAfter 26 Years, Yet another film which depicts the life of a rnsportsperson and how crucial the role of a coach would be in moulding rnhis student into a champion player arrives. 'Guru' shows from where rngreat stories come from...the society itself!
The biggest successrn of 'Guru' is the fact that Audience relate to the characters of Aditya rn(Venky) and Ramudu (Rithika Singh). This movie is about the rntransformation of a Slum Girl into a Boxer, Relationship between a Coachrn & Player, Politics in Boxing Association and How one could emerge rnas a Champion with proper guidance & determination.
Directorrn Sudha Kongara has done extensive research and that's quite visible on rnthe screen. She balanced all the aspects quite well in this emotional rnsubject. Audience will learn many unknown aspects related with Boxing rnwith this movie. You could find neither larger-than-life characters nor rncommercial touch in 'Guru'. That's why Audience find it very refreshing rnfrom start to end.
Combination scenes of Venky & Rithika rnSingh are very interesting. Interval Bang is one of the high points in rnthe movie. In the Second Half, There is a bit of lag and audience wait rnfor Venky to take the lead again. It was only after his re-entry, The rnmomentum picks up and helps the film end on a positive note. Pre-Climax rnand Climax are high on emotions. Sequence between Venky & Rithika rnafter the bout stood as a major highlight. Makers succeeded in rnre-creating the feel and emotion that's seen in the Original. 'Guru' rnmayn't appeal for all sections of audience due to lack of commercial rnelements and entertainment. But, It's a kind of film which does pretty rnwell in all the A Centres and Multiplexes.
Bottom Line: The Best Sports-based Flick in TFI!
