Has Telugu Film Industry taken over Indian Cinema?
X
Once Indian Cinema outside India meant Hindi Cinema. During the same time, South Indian Cinema for even Indians meant Tamil Cinema. Telugu directors like K. Raghavendra Rao, Bapu, Dasari Narayana Rao, K. Bapayya have had great run in 80's in Hindi Cinema but still they were called "Madrasis"!

Ram Gopal Varma changed that perception slightly with Shiva and as he could make original Hindi films rather than remakes of regional hits, he became even more famous.

Now, Baahubali is changing the entire scenario Pan-India and Worldwide too. The movie has become the only Indian movie to collect a gross over Rs. 1500 crores only in India from all languages, it released in.

Dangal collected more than Rs. 2000 crores but China market accounts for more than Rs. 1500 crores of the collected gross as in Indian market, film collected only 580 crores gross, approximately.

Even though a Hindi film is still the biggest box office hit from India to be ever produced, Baahubali holds the record for being a hit in every language in India and at every centre.

SS Rajamouli truly redefined All Time Blockbuster status and Industry Hit status for any movie with Baahubali 2. Prabhas, the lead actor of Baahubali, has become Pan India Superstar and his films are being marketed in all Indian languages.

Looking at his popularity and taking a leaf out of SS Rajamouli's book, Prashanth Neel delivered KGF for Kannada Cinema. But with the kind of popularity that Ram Charan, Jr. NTR, Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun kind of Telugu stars enjoy in other languages as well, their latest releases are also going for Pan-India and multi-language release.

Audiences are reacting better to these big star massive budget films and we can see that from bookings in major cities of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and few areas in Odisha, Rajasthan, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Surely, these big films are also affecting local releases but even Tamil stars have started aiming for Pan-India box office. On the whole, Telugu Cinema seems to be taking over Indian Cinema for sure. Better late than never, quality makers should get more exposure.

Goutham Tinnanuri, Sandeep Reddy Vanga kind of transition from regional language films to National language films should become a desirability for upcoming filmmakers too. India should be able to give content that challenges Worldwide appeal of Hollywood rather than feeling inferior to the quality, it produces. Hope that day is near too.
