High Court grants relief for Ilayaraja!

Ilayaraja is a veteran music composer who ruled the hearts of music lovers for decades. Having worked across the industries, the music director is often regarded as the king of melodies. Like his unmatchable music, his confrontation with the audio companies is also famous and always hits the headlines.

The face-off between the music composer and audio companies is in the news for one more time as the Madras High Court gave a verdict in favour of Ilayaraja hearing a case that was filed over the audio companies violating the norms.

The Madras High Court said that the audio companies cannot sell CDs with songs composed by the music director. Having said that, the High Court gave a chance for the audio companies to file a counter-petition and adjourned the next hearing to the 31st of next month.

The issue reached the High Court with Ilayaraja knocking on the doors of the court challenging the orders issued by the single judge bench. In the orders, the bench said that the audio companies can sell the songs in the form of CDs. The single-judge bench heard the case in 2017.

However, Ilayaraja who was not happy with the court orders had challenged the same and took the issue to the two-judge bench. The bench gave a major relief to Ilayaraja by not allowing the companies to sell the audio songs. The orders issued by the single judge bench were also stayed by the two-judge bench.

Shockingly, Ilayaraja stays in the news with some or the other issues with the audio companies. For around seven years, Ilayaraja has been battling the issues. Back in 2015, Ilayaraja moved the court and got orders which directed five audio recording companies from making and selling the songs he had composed.

Not only audio companies, Ilayaraja even had issues with late playback singer Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam aka SPB. Ilayaraja even filed a case against the singer finding fault with him singing songs composed by him without his permission. SPB said that he will sing the songs no matter what. This led to the two old friends reportedly not speaking to each other.
