Minister Defends Priyanka's Cleavage Show

A controversy erupted over the skin show of Priyanka Chopra on the calendar of the Assam Tourism Ministry. Congress MLAs Nandita Das and Rupjyoti Kurmi termed the cleavage show of Bollywood Actress as an insult to Assamese Culture. They even demanded ouster of Piggy Chops as the brand ambassador of Assam Tourism.
Assam Tourism Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma defended the minimal clothes worn by Priyanka Chopra while featuring on the Tourism Calendar. 'This is just a cheap publicity stunt by few Congress MLAs. I don't know where is the vulgarity in those pictures. Yes, Dhoti and Saree are traditional attires. But, This is a matter related to Tourism Department. Even Foreigners will be visiting Assam. Don't you think the invitation should be attractive? Who would arrive if we invite them in saree-clad avatars? Even Heroines of Assamese Films wear various modern outfits. May be, Those who are criticizing knew about it,' he shot back.
Whereas, Congress Party argues preferring Assamese Traditional Dress would be appropriate to promote the culture and tradition of the state. Opposition suggests Government to improve tourism infrastructure rather than wasting funds to appoint famous actresses as brand ambassadors.
