According to the story demand, Pa. Ranjith the director of Kaala, wanted a dog to play besides Rajnikanth. After rejecting many, Ranjith selected Mani.
Seeman, the trainer of the dogs and dog supplier to film shoots, was worried that he may miss the chance to work with Rajni in Kaala.
He said, "Working with Rajni sir is always a dream and I did not want to miss it. But when director Ranjith did not accept any photo, I was worried. Finally, he liked Mani."
He revealed how he adopted Mani. He said, "I took Mani from roadside and started treating him like my own family. Actors in the films should be friendly with the dogs who act with them to maintain a cordial relationship and train them. Rajni sir, liked Mani's eyes and he used to bring biscuits daily for him."
He later revealed, "Today, Mani is a star. Many are coming forward to give me 2 or 3 crores to adopt him. I can give them any other but not Mani. He is like my family and I cannot give him up for anything."
