In a significant development of its military potential, India Sunday successfully tested a medium-range ballistic missile launched from underwater.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation-developed BO5 was launched from an underwater pontoon in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Visakhapatnam.

"The missile launched from a pontoon, was tested for the full range and met all the mission objectives," a DRDO statement said here.

"All the parameters of the vehicle were monitored by radar. All through the trajectory and terminal events have taken place exactly as expected," it added.

Defence Minister A.K. Antony and DRDO chief V.K. Saraswat congratulated all the scientists for the successful launch.
