Can India Follow China In This Matter?
By: Tupaki Desk | 14 April 2020 10:40 AM GMTAs we know, the fast spreading Corona virus is sending everyone into fear. The lockdown has been extended to May 3rd in India and film industry is going to be one of the biggest industries to be affected by it. The theatres being shut down for these many months may prove costly to the owners.
After the Corona faded away, China reopened the theatres but allowed only allowed people that can fill 30% of its capacity. This means, if there are 100 seats in a theatre, only 30 tickets will be sold in order to maintain distance. There is a talk that this may be applied in India too. As per sources exhibitors and theatre owners are against this idea. They are reportedly saying that this may work in China as they only have multiplexes.
The condition in India is different and considering the fact that there are more single screen theatres in India, the revenues may take a severe beating. Only 14 percent of revenue will be coming from single screens if that rule is applied. They are pleading the government to take decisions based on the industry's situation and nature as per reports.
