Will The Lobbying Help In Reopening The Theatres!
By: Tupaki Desk | 15 May 2020 1:30 PM GMTWith no releases from the past two months and no clarity of when the theatres would reopen, many filmmakers from different languages are thinking of releasing their films directly on OTT platforms. This is worrying about the distributors and exhibitors a lot. A first attempt to stop their INOX Multiplex chain released a press note which is a warning to the producers demanding them not to release their films online.
Everyone knows that these warnings may not work for longer durations which is why reliable sources claim that the multiplex chains are lobbying the Central government with the influence, they have to convince them to reopen the theatres by the end of June at the least.
Even the Telugu exhibitors are doing all they can to convince both the governments of Telugu states to open the theatres and promising that proper measures will be taken to follow the physical distance.
The current lockdown is applicable till 17th May while the Telangana government extended it till 29th May. We need to see if this lobbying helps the filmmakers to any extent or not.
