Allari Naresh who once tickled the funny bones of every Telugu movie lover with his comedy films has changed his pattern in recent times. He is majorly working on serious and interesting subjects. His latest film 'Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam' falls under this category. After generating a decent buzz with the trailer, let us see how Naresh's movie turned out.
Story:
Srinivas (Allari Naresh) is a government school teacher. He cares for everyone and worries about the problems to everyone. As a part of elections, he gets sent to agency area Maredumilli. Srinivas had to travel a lot in the dense forests to reach where he needed to be. After going there, he witnesses the situation of the people living there. They have no transport facilities, hospitals and education which leads them to suffer a lot. They refuse to vote unless the government takes a lot at their problems. Srinivas changes their mind and makes them vote. After completing the elections, the people of Maredumilli kidnap Srinivas and his co-worker. Who kidnapped them? What is the reason behind it? Did Srinivas survive? These questions will be answered in the movie.
Analysis:
People are not showing any interest in movies with social messages these days unless they are commercially loaded with songs, fights and heroism. They are ignoring serious movies completely just by looking at the trailer. As the movie world is a business at the end of the day, the makers are forced to make commercially appealing movies and a lot of unheard stories are coming out. At such a point in time, AR Mohan stunned everyone by taking up a project like 'Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam'. He made a movie on people in forests who struggle to make their problems heard by the government and what do they achieve with the help of a school teacher. Many may think that this movie may not appeal to them but the director tried to make the film as gripping as possible with decent amount of entertainment. He made it as interesting and appealing as possible for the audience to watch it. This movie may not surprise you but succeeds in making the audience sit for two and half hours and walk out of the theatre with a good message in their hearts.
We can understand the story of this film through its trailer. There is nothing to hide. It looks heavily inspired by the Hindi film 'Newton' but the treatment is completely different. Despite getting an idea about the story right at the beginning, the filmmaker makes us sit throughout which is appreciable. As most of the movie happens inside the forest area, we get an authentic feel while watching this movie. Though we might think that it is a serious film at the start, the fun part arrives when Vennela Kishore steps in. He gets help from Praveen which keeps the entertainment quotient high. While Naresh did not take the lead in comedy scenes, the comedian duo makes people laugh at regular intervals which ensures that the audience don't get bored. The story runs in the view of hero motivating the uninterested people to vote. A strong scene makes the people of the forest area change their opinion on the hero. It makes you emotional and shows that there is a heart in this movie. The interval twist is quite good and raises curiosity of the viewer.
The second half revolves around the reason behind the villagers kidnapping the hero and what the government does from here on. A few scenes get repetitive and bore the audience. At this point in time, he brings in Raghubabu's character and makes sure that the interest doesn't die down. He provides good entertainment and the rest of the film runs on an emotional note. The change of heart in the collector's character is shown in a very touching manner. But the conflict point may not appeal to everyone. People who are used to seeing a Telugu hero solving a problem in a grand manner might not be completely satisfied with the ending but the emotions around it hits you hard. Despite its limitations, 'Itlu Maredumilli Niyojakavargam' gives us the feeling of having watched a good film.
Performances:
Despite doing a lot of comedy movies, Allari Naresh showcased a lot of times that he can handle emotional scenes amazingly. Now, he got a completely serious role and nailed it. He impresses you in the kind-hearted government teacher's role and looked very sincere. His look and intensity too worked out well for the movie. He showed maturity in giving importance to the story and let others shine at times.
Vennela Kishore and Praveen tried to provide entertainment in a serious movie. They succeeded in most parts. Even Raghu Babu did the same. Sampath showcased his expertise in the collector's role. Aanandi is the perfect choice for an educated village girl's role. She looked like a girl next door and did a convincing job. The rest of the actors did a very good job.
Technicians:
All the technicians did very well in this movie. Sri Charan Pakala's songs worked well with the flow and his background score touches your heart in many places. Ram Reddy's visuals are fantastic and his effort can be seen throughout the movie as it is very tough to shoot in forest areas with a lot of limitations. The art director did a wonderful job too. The producers should be appreciated for backing this effort from the director.
Abburi Ravi penned a lot of good dialogues. Story writer and director AR Mohan did a great job in coming up with a sincere and honest script. He needs to be lauded for his guts to come up with such a movie and narrate it in the most appealing way possible.
Verdict: An Honest Attempt!
