Fate of Small/Medium/Big Budget Movies In TFI
By: Tupaki Desk | 18 Jan 2018 6:42 AM GMT2016 witnessed hundreds of films making way to the theatres but in the end, the films that have left an impression and mark at the box office are very few and they came from the medium-market-range heroes but not the star heroes. All the star heroes disappointed the audiences with some poor content movies but the young heroes have impressed with their simple films.
The year started with the biggies like Khaidi No 150 and Gautamiputra Satakarni. Though the films have got good talk during the festival season, they could not become the best movies of the year. The other biggies like Jai Lava Kusa, Duvvada Jagannadham, SPYder and the recently released Agnyathavaasi have flopped miserably at the box office. While a couple of films from the list made decent business, the other movies ended as massive disasters. The business on the star heroes movies has become a gambling and the distributors are always on the sharpened side of a knife.
Jai Lava Kusa and Duvvada Jagannadham tried to impress the audiences but the films like SPYder and Agnyathavaasi grabbed the failure talk from the morning shows itself. The failure has become obvious for the buyers when they take the film for heavy prices. The buyers are betting high by moving forward with the combinations and hero's image. When the film releases, the sad reality comes to the light. The previous year has turned gold into small and medium range budget movies.
The films like Fidaa, Nenu Local, Middle-Class Abbayi, Ninnu Kori, Shatamanam Bhavati, Arjun Reddy and a few others have become huge hits at the box office., The distributors are always ready to grab the movies of Nani and Sharwanand. Both these heroes proved minimum guarantee heroes. The conviction and the care the heroes are taking regarding the selection of the scripts is impressive.
The distributors also learnt a lesson that it is ideal to invest money in medium range movies rather than betting high on the star hero movies. The loss percent of these medium range movies is also less when compared to the high budgeted flicks. The realisation has started in a lot of buyers already and with the recent failure of Agnyathavaasi, the distributors have been building their own comfort zones. In the coming years, we might be witnessing a lot of craze for the medium range heroes movies rather than the star hero films.
Because of the same reason, there is a super craze for Nani's upcoming movies like AWE, Krishnarjuna Yudhdham and Sharwa's two upcoming movies. All Vijay Devarakonda movies are also carrying a great buzz now.
The craze for the star heroes is never dying. But, one thing that the star heroes or the directors and producers of their movies should realise is to sell the movie for less price and share the profits with the buyers, else, there is a lot of damage in store for the film industry.
