'Jaguar', the launch pad of Former Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy's Son Nikhil Gowda, hits the screens Today. This Rs 75 crore flick is being directed by 'Mithrudu' fame Mahadev. Story by Vijayendra Prasad and High Production Values raised the curiosity on this biggie. 'Jaguar' begins the trend of simultaneous release of a Kannada flick dubbed in Telugu.
Synopsis:
SS Krishna (Nikhil Gowda), an MBBS Student, keeps chasing his Senior's Sister Priya (Deepti Sathi) with the love proposal. On the other side, He appears as a man wearing mask and gets involved in the murders of some high-profile individuals. All of these assassinations were aired live on Television but Krishna still manages to escape from cops. A CBI Officer (Jagapathi Babu) is being appointed to chase the mystery behind the murders. What's the motto of Krishna and why is he opting for a disguise 'Jaguar' forms the rest of the tale..!
Performances:
First things first, Nikhil Gowda isn't a Hero Material. He neither have the conventional features of a Hero nor possess extraordinary acting prowess. Although his dances and fights were good enough, He falters when it comes to the talkie portions, be it dialogue delivery or histrionics or body language.
Nothing much to say about Heroine Deepthi Sathi. Of course, She provides ample skin show and also locks lips with the debutante hero.
Jagapathi Babu is stylish as CBI Officer. However, The role done by him wasn't etched properly. Ramya Krishna is impressive even though her screen time is short. Brahmanandam fails yet again. Adarsh Balakrishna scores brownie points. Rao Ramesh, Sampath and Adithya Menon were ordinary. Tamanna looks eye-candy in the item number.
Pros:
Action Blocks
Cinematography
Production Values
Cons:
Second Half
Technicalities:
Music by SS Thaman isn't pleasing. While none of the songs leave a lasting impact, Background Score is just okay. Manoj Paramahamsa's Cinematography is a major asset to 'Jaguar'. Visuals look so rich and usage of lighting deserves a special mention. Action Episodes were canned well. Production Values were simply superb. Vijayendra Prasad failed to meet the high expectations after Blockbusters like 'Baahubali' & 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'. Mahadev's Screenplay is a big let down and his Direction is lackluster.
Analysis:
The same old revenge formula which has been used for umpteen times in Telugu Films is revived yet again for 'Jaguar'. Kudos to Vijayendra Prasad and Mahadev for convincing Kumaraswamy to invest Rs 75 crore on this subject.
'Jaguar' goes in a fixed format - Hero's Father commits suicide after being cheated by Villains, Several years later Hero stars getting rid of the gang members one after the other, Actual twist unfolds in the flashback episode and A huge climax follows. Rich Production Values and Breath-Taking Action Sequences were like a sugar-coating.
None of the stories penned by Vijayendra Prasad were out of the box. All he does is recycling of old stories but capable directors like Rajamouli made good use of them. In the case of 'Jaguar', Mahadev failed to write an engaging screenplay to arrest the attention of the viewers till the very end.
Teasing scenes and comedy blocks in the College episodes were poorly executed. Even the CBI Investigation on the murders appears silly. While First Half is just bearable, Second Half is terrible to say the least. Stunning Visuals, Top-Notch Stunts and Lavish Production Values are the strengths of 'Jaguar'. On the flip side, Flashback and Climax are painful to watch. Grandeur alone can't make a film successful and this launch pad proves it. On a whole, 'Jaguar' disappoints big time.
Bottom Line: High on Budget - Low on Content!
