Jai Bhim Controversy: reward to assault Suriya!

Actor Suriya's recent outing Jai Bhim that had an OTT outing ran into a controversy after people from a community were not happy with the film as the film had reportedly shown the community in a bad light. Finding fault for this, the community had filed a legal case against Suriya and Jyothika.
The members of the Vanniyar community are alleging that Jai Bhim had insulted their community. As a bid to show their protest against this, the members of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) reportedly staged a protest outside a theatre in Mayiladuthurai and forced the theatre owner to stop the film screening.
The Pattali Makkal Katchi(PMK) which is at the loggerheads with actor Suriya over the Jai Bhim row had reportedly moved the Mayiladuthurai Superintendent of Police seeking action to be taken against Suriya for defaming the community.
Panneerselvam, the district secretary of PMK for Mayiladuthurai took a step ahead and announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh who attacks Suriya whenever he comes to Mayiladuthurai. After his alleged comments went viral, Suriya got a lot of support from people on social media.
Within no time, the hashtag #WeStandWithSuriya went trending with netizens making tweets in support of Suriya. In the tweets, the netizens opined that dragging a film that is receiving appreciation from all the corners is normal and the issue is one such effort.
Looking into the controversy, the members of the Vanniyar Sangam have accused the makers of Jai Bhim of showing their community in a bad light. They said the wrong policeman in the film has a Vanniyar name and the picture shown in the house of the cop also projects the cop as a Vanniyar.
Through an advocate, the Vanniyar Sangam members have slapped the makers with a notice demanding that they should pay a sum of Rs 5 crores as damages for defaming them. In reality, the cop who has a role to play in custodial death is a Christian and his name was Anthonysamy. Whereas in the film, the name of the sub-inspector was changed, the Vanniyar Sangam alleged.
Ex-Union Health Minister, senior PMK leader Dr.Anbumani Ramadoss had also raised his voice over the issue and lashed out at the makers for defaming the Vanniyar community.
