Jigarthanda Vs Valmiki; Which One Has More Mass Appeal?
By: Tupaki Desk | 17 Sep 2019 8:16 AM GMTAn interesting comparison to look at will be how a cult original film be remade into another language! Yes, if a film is revered by many and is designated a status of Cult Classic, when it is attempted to be made differently in another language, then the odds are that either it will be equal to it or it will fail to recreate the magic.
Premam became a cult classic in Malayalam and had good amount of following in Telugu, Tamil and even in North Indian states. Such magical love story was attempted in Telugu by Naga Chaitanya and Chandoo Mondeti.
Movie became a hit commercially, but several said that the original magic was missing. Naga Chaitanya did get good praise but many said he couldn't match Nivin Pauly's cuteness, brashness and subtlety, from original.
At the same time, Salman Khan's commercial classic and huge comeback hit, Dabangg was remade as Gabbar Singh in Telugu with Pawan Kalyan. Movie also became a comeback hit for Telugu Powerstar after 12 years of many misses and one hit.
Now, director of Gabbar Singh, Harish Shankar is attempting the similar kind of remake for Tamil cult gangster classic, Jigarthanda. The movie became such a popular hit on social media and even in Tamil Industry, that director, Karthik Subbaraj could make Petta with Rajnikanth, recently because of the film.
Harish Shankar is known for changing the original in his own way and add commercial mass elements to Telugu people's liking. He changed Dabangg second hour in Gabbar Singh and that made even Salman Khan, say that he would like to make the film again with this second hour.
Valmiki looks to have been through certain changes and Pooja Hegde will be additional glamour to the flashback or movie episodes from the original.
Varun Tej may not try to emulate what Bobby Simha did in original, it won him National award, but it will be interesting to see, how he pulled this over the top mass character, which he never tried since Loafer debacle. 20th September will answer all the questions more clearly, but we are intrigued, aren't you?
