Direct OTT Releases Not Getting Desired Reception!
By: Tupaki Desk | 30 May 2020 11:50 AM GMTThe theatres have been shut down from the past few months and it will be some more time before they reopen. Even after that, there is still a bit of worry about the reception of the audience. Due to this, some filmmakers are taking up the offers given by OTT platforms and having direct releases.
Small and medium films are finding it the best way to recover their money and Amazon Prime brought some interesting films in various languages to stream them online. As a part of that, Tamil film 'Ponmagal Vandal' starring Jyothika in the lead was released recently.
But these direct releases are not getting good reception and desired results. Two months back, a film called 'Amrutharaman' got released on OTT directly and ended up as a failure with poor reviews. That was Telugu's first OTT release. Even Jyothika's film is getting an average response from the critics which is affecting its viewership. A recently released Nawazuddin Siddiqui's film in Hindi too got bad talk.
If this goes on for a few more films, the OTT platforms may think twice before buying films for such fancy rates. Hope the films releasing from now on get good reception and better views.
