Kalyan Ram might have done many films till date but movie buffs appreciated only 'Athanokkade' and 'Patas'. Even his last two films 'Sher' and 'ISM' were disasters. Now, He teamed up with a newbie Upendra Madhav for a commercial entertainer. How much did 'MLA' entertain the audience? Let's see...
Synopsis:
Kalyan (Kalyan Ram) lives in the house of his Sister (Lasya) and Brother-in-Law Vennela Kishore. He accidentally meets Indu (Kajal Agarwal) who is the daughter of his Employer and falls in love with her. Though she likes him, Indu reveals to Kalyan why she can't marry him. What are those reasons & what has Kalyan done to marry his soul mate forms rest of the tale!
Performances:
Compared to his previous films, Kalyan Ram appeared in a more youthful manner. Both his look and body language are completely contract to what he has done in the past. He performed well in action blocks and emotional scenes. He did score a few brownie points with comedy timing as well.
Kajal is just okay in terms of acting prowess and there isn't much scope for her either. She, however, appears glamorous to leave her own mark.
The role played by Ravi Kishan seems to be continuation of what he did in 'Race Gurram'. Brahmanandam, Posani, Vennela Kishore and Pruthvi has done a fine job.

Neither Songs nor Background Score composed by Mani Sharma impress. Only the 'Yudham Yudham' track is good enough. Cinematography by Prasad Murella brought rich look to the movie. Production Values are good. Upendra Madhav failed to meet the standards movie lovers expect from a debutante filmmaker. He dealt an ordinary story in a commercial format. The Newbie adopted his mentor Srinu Vytla's formula in the first half and entertains to some extent. Lack of freshness in the Second Half and predictability plays a spoiler.
Analysis:
Theatrical Trailer of 'MLA' gave an impression it's going to a commercial entertainer. As expected, The same old template has been implemented to perfection. Pucca Commercial Meter has been followed by Director Upendra Madhav with good balance of comedy, romance, emotion and action. Not that entertainment is missing in 'MLA' but the required dose isn't served.
First Half of 'MLA' is entertaining. Comedy generated by Posani and Vennela Kishore tickles the funny bone. Brahmanandam entertains in his trademark style after a long gap. Even the Interval twist is quite good.
Whereas, The Film falters in the Second Half and story/screenplay gets very predictable after a point. Interval Bang have a surprise element. Whereas, The impact it created wasn't utilized properly in the latter half. Lack of any interesting twists n turns play spoilsport.
In 'MLA', A Settler makes a Sitting MLA resign and gets elected from the same seat with people's acceptance. Few good qualities of MLA has been presented in a commercial format. As a result, The sincerity one expect from such scenes goes missing. Overall, 'MLA' is for those who enjoy regular commercial films. People who crave for freshness or path-breaking films can stay away.
