Regarding a query on caste, The Acclaimed Actor replied: 'I refused to fill in the caste & religion column in both my daughters' school admission certificate. That's the only way, it will pass on to the next generation. Every individual should start contributing for progress. Kerala started implementing the same. Those who do should be celebrated'.
This gave an opportunity for the Trolls to go in search of Shruti Haasan's September 2014 interview on the chat show 'Look Who's Talking With Niranjan'. When the host Niranjan Iyengar quizzed why she refers to him as her 'Aambalaiyaan', The Actress didn't mind saying it's just because they both are Iyengars.
Twitterati didn't wait anymore to accuse Kamal Haasan of double standards. Political Opponents began targeting the Actor-turned-Politician saying the tweet has only exposed his lack of understanding of caste. They have even pointed out how Kamal promoted caste identity through films such as 'Thevar Magan' (1992). Some of the them even questioned why does he continues to use 'caste names' in the titles of his films (Sabash Naidu) if he is against the practice.
