Lack of hikes in one and Excessive hikes in another!
By: Tupaki Desk | 8 March 2022 10:23 AM GMTLack of hikes has become a problem in Andhra Pradesh State and the Government is solving the issue as we speak. But for an year, it determined the release of big budget films in Telugu Cinema Industry.
While in AP, people wanted decent pricing, Telangana Government over compensated and gave permission for Rs. 295 level pricing. Which makes it up to Rs. 350/- post GST.
Families cannot afford four tickets of Rs. 350 and then snacks at the theatre. Things were fine when maximum was decided to be at Rs. 200. As at Rs. 200, one can think about spending Rs. 1000/- on a film once a week or month, according to their budget.
But Rs. 1200/- for just tickets would make it Rs. 1500 - 2000/- per film, means a 200% increase in expenses. While OTT platforms subscription can be bought in that same amount for three to six months.
Piracy became rampant a decade ago due to prices and Telugu movie trade decided to go for more hikes. A section of audiences decided to not visit theatres ever, as a result.
Due to huge blockbusters like Baahubali films, Magadheera, F2, Srimanthudu, Ala Vaikuntapurramuloo we can say that family audiences have become highly choosy. When they turn up for a film, those films are going to the next level in collections, otherwise many big films are opening huge then having very dull days at the box office.
Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati's Bheemlanayak can be taken as new example for the ticket prices issue ruining the prospects. In one state, it had no prices and another it had excessive.
Exhibitors and distributors should have control over pricing and should see that maximum pricing won't exceed Rs. 200 per ticket after first weekend for families to give any film, a try at theatres.
