LIC asked to set up special team to settle Uttarakhand victims
By: Tupaki Desk | 25 Jun 2013 3:17 PM GMTThe government has asked the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) to set up a special team to settle claims of those affected by the floods in Uttarakhand.
Finance Minister P. Chidambaram directed LIC to open a major camp office in Dehradun to settle the claims on centralised basis, according to a statement issued by the finance ministry here.
Chidambaram said LIC should follow the same norms for settlement of claims as being followed by it during tsunami or earthquake in Bhuj and Latur in the past.
“LIC should not insist on the normal condition that requires seven years' period in case of the missing people before death certificate is issued in their case in a normal situation,” Chidambaram said after inaugurating through video conferencing 300 mini- offices of LIC spread throughout the country.
