After disasters like 'Range De' and 'Check', young hero Nithiin has decided to take the commercial route once again. He teamed up with debut director MS Rajasekhar Reddy and made 'Macherla Niyojakavargam'. The makers promoted this film as a complete commercial entertainer right from the beginning. With hit songs and action-packed trailer, the makers managed to raise decent expectations. With a big weekend ahead, let us see how the film turned out.
Story:
Siddharth (Nithiin) is a happy-go-lucky guy who leads a normal life. He passes the services exam and gets posted in Macherla area in Guntur. Siddarth as a collector decides to go against MLA Rajappa (Samuthirakani) who is unopposed for a long time. They lock horns with each other and who ends up winning forms the rest of the story.
Analysis:
To explain 'Macherla Niyojakavargam' in a nutshell, there is a scene where a girl walks in Vizag beach along with her friends. She is teased by a group of men and girl warns them. The batch asks her who is he and she gives a lot of build-up for the hero and Nithiin gets introduced immediately. It is followed by a mandatory fight and an energetic song which gives a small message to the youth. This is the pattern of the movie.
The above-mentioned girl is the minister's daughter who is head over heels for the hero. But our protagonist doesn't fall for her despite her best efforts. He wants his dream girl and she appears in his village. The love story begins and a comedian is used as a 'Bakra' in this episode. He is Vennela Kishore. In between this love track, there is a fight to elevate the hero and towards the interval comes the conflict point with the villain. The rest of the film is all about the one-on-one battle between hero and villain. This is what happens throughout 'Macherla Niyojakavargam'.
The debut director fails to make an impact in any scene. We expect something new from a first film director but Rajasekhar Reddy who turned into a director after working as the editor for more than 50 films made sure that his film is as routine and mediocre as possible. This film would have been successful if it was made 20 years back and these kinds of stories became routine long back. Nithiin released 'Vikram' in Telugu and said a lot of great things about it. He said he wanted to make one such film but this is what he offered the audience. There is a scene where he utters 'Vikram' dialogue with the trademark background score too. This run-of-the-mill story was made with an even more predictable screenplay which did not help at all.
Barring the styling of Nithiin, there is good about the movie and there are a lot of scenes that remind the audience of numerous movies which came out in the last two decades. Vennela Kishore's comedy in the first half is a bit of a relief and even his track runs out of steam after a certain point. A few action blocks may please the audience and the much-hyped 'Ra Ra Reddy' will get a good response. Barring that, this film has nothing new to offer and never makes the audience invested throughout its runtime. It is high time for Nithiin to take a deep look at his story selection and new director Rajasekhar Reddy to reconsider his scripts.
Performances:
Nithiin looked very handsome in the film. This is one of his best looks in recent times. But there is nothing more to say positively about his character. His acting suited the commercial template and it is a regular job for him.
If things go like this, it is not long before Krithi Shetty bores the audience. She appeared in a glam doll role in 'The Warrior' a few days back and did the same kind of character in this film too. She doesn't have the screen presence to lift a poorly written role.
Catherine Tresa looked out of shape and did many such roles in her career. Samuthirakani did another routine character and his double role did not help too. Vennela Kishore brought out a few laughs. He got a lot of screentime in this film and did a decent job till some time. Rajendra Prasad and Murali Sharma played non-substantial roles. The rest of the cast including Brahmaji, Jayaprakash, Brahmaji, Indraja and others were strictly okay.
Technicians:
Mahati Swara Sagar managed to attract the masses with 'Ra Ra Reddy' song and a few other songs sounded good too. But their presentation is not up to the mark. The background score is quite loud in many places. Prasad Murella's cinematography suited the mood of the film. The visuals are colorful. Production values are quite good but the dialogues are too routine.
Director and writer MS Rajasekhar Reddy fails to impress in any aspect. He picked a mediocre story and narrated it in the most predictable manner. He followed a template that was rejected by the audience a lot of times before.
Verdict: A Pakka Routine Entertainer
