Previously, there were several reports that Mahesh Babu was approached for a central role in Ramayan, a Bollywood mega project that was rumored to be mounted on a stellar budget of Rs 600 crores. Mahesh Babu was also interested in the project initially but he later opted out, citing logistical reasons. The makers hoped to bring in Mahesh Babu and fetch box office pull down South for the mega project but that did not happen as the handsome hero turned down the proposal. The makers then had to start searching for other alternatives.

Now, PinkVilla, a reliable Bollywood media portal has come up with an inside story on why Mahesh Babu did not sign the mega project, Ramayan. As per this report, Mahesh Babu had already agreed to do the project with Rajamouli and that is the reason why he did not come on board for Ramayan.

"Allu Aravind tried to pull off a coup in Ramayana by getting Hrithik Roshan and Mahesh Babu together, however, thing's didn't materialize. "Mahesh was committed to do a film with SS Rajamouli, and hence, he decided to stay away from Ramayana. The things were in the advanced stage, but eventually, it's Rajamouli who got the priority from Mahesh." The report from PinkVilla read.

As it appears, Allu Aravind tried his best to bring Mahesh Babu onboard for the project, but that did not happen. Mahesh was more committed towards the project with Rajamouli and that is the reason why he even turned down a lucrative offer from the makers of Ramayan. Meanwhile, Rajamouli is set to start working on the film with SS Rajamouli once he is done with RRR's release. He is fully focused on RRR now and there will be no diversions whatsoever.

Mahesh Babu - Rajamouli project will start rolling once Mahesh Babu is done with SSMB28, a Trivikram directorial. This project will be mounted on a massive scale and it could well mark Mahes's debut in the pan-India market. This film is touted to be an action adventure. More details about the project are expected to emerge in the next few months.
