Hero Nani's dream run began with 'Yevade Subrahmanyam' and continued till 'Gentleman'. That's four hits in a row & two of them were released in this year! Today, Our Natural Star arrives to theaters with 'Majnu'. Posters, Promos & Confidence shown by Nani in the interviews generated positive buzz. Let's check whether or not the success streak would continue....

Synopsis:

Aditya (Nani), an Assistant Director in Rajamouli's camp, gets attracted to Suma (Priya Sri) and tries to impress her. Even Suma responds positively to the proposal upon knowing about his Love Failure with Kiran (Anu Emmanuel) in Bhimavaram. Despite break-up, Aditya has been still in love with Kiran and it was too late by the time he realizes it. One fine day, Kiran enters into the life of Aditya again. The rest of the story is about how Aditya handled the complex situation & whom does he marry in the end!

Performances:

First things first, The Box Office result of 'Majnu' could have been disappointing if not for Nani. Such is his impact on the content & end result. Only few Actors are capable of elevating a normal scene to a whole new level with their performance. Nani belongs to that league! Be it any emotion, He excels to an extent that you can't imagine any other actor in that role. His comic timing is exemplary and touches the hearts of audience with emotional scenes in pre-Climax.

Malayalam beauty Anu Emmanuel makes an impactful debut. She scores brownie points with her beauty & acting prowess. The second fiddle, Priya Sri does a fine job. Satya and Vennela Kishore are flawless in combination scenes with Nani. Raj Tharun shines in the Cameo role.

Pros:

Nani

Flashback

Music

Cons:

Routine Plot

Dragging Second Half

Technicalities:

Gopi Sundar's Music is an asset to 'Majnu'. 'Kallu Musi Terichelope..' & 'Oh Meghamala..' will stand out. Even the picturization of songs is so pleasant and appealing. The haunting Background Score deserves a special mention. Gnasekhar's Cinematography is neat. Especially, His work gets noticed in the Flashback episode. Editing could have been better. Production Values were good. Writer-cum-Director Virinchi Varma showed his mark on 'Majnu'. He succeeded in incorporating feel-good elements in a routine Love Story and made good use of an actor of Nani's calibre. May be, He should have designed the Second Half in a different manner rather than compromising.

Analysis:

Virinchi Varma proved his mettle with 'Uyyala Jampala' by presenting a routine story in a lively manner. For 'Majnu', He relies on the same formula and the combination with Nani worked big time here. Though it gives a feeling of watching a routine story, The narration is so pleasant and there is no dull moment in the movie.

Situational Comedy is the lifeline of 'Majnu'. Particularly, Nani-Vennela Kishore combination scenes were hilarious. Except for the sequence where Goons call Nani for film offers, None of the comic scenes look forced. Lack of any heavy-moments worked in the favor of the movie.

Flashback Episode with Bhimavaram backdrop is the major attraction. The love track between Lecturer & Student is pleasing to watch. Youth could connect with them instantly. After a refreshing First Half, Film takes a routine path in the Second Half and focus shifts to the triangular love story. Though the pre-climax was dragged a bit, The graph of the movie grew with an entertaining Climax.

Routine Story & Predictable Second Half are the biggest setbacks of the movie. 'Majnu' can't meet the standards set by 'Krishnagaadi Veera Prema Gadha' & 'Gentleman'. Still, You could give it a try for light-hearted movements & feel-good stuff.

Bottom Line: Its Nani's show all the way!
