He doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps rather he would like to become an Educationalist and is more interested in National Politics. Mani Ratnam himself said this and explained that he never liked to force anything on to children and will encourage his son, to do whatever he is more interested in. He also said he studied MBA but ended up becoming a filmmaker and he has no remorse regarding that. He feels that whatever you end up doing one should educate themselves and continue to do so.
Mani also said that in his 34 years of career he never tried to tell stories that he felt were completely different what believes in. He stated that he tries to take inspirations from real life incidents and make them more aesthic and dramatise them to his liking. Even his latest release film, Cheliya is inspired from true incidents and is a period drama situated in 1990's.
Mani Ratnam clarified that he never likes to use women as sex objects and all scenes in his movie try to be respectful to women and project romance rather than vulgarity. He mentioned that all his career, whenever he made a woman oriented subject he took extra care to not let it hurt women sentiments. Films like Cheliya, Sakhi, Anjali, Mounaragam are women centric but they do not project them as weak, bleak and mean characters. Well, about making just 25 films in 34 years long career he said he believed in quality rather than quantity!
