Movie Review: LOUKYAM (By Hapra)

Action hero Gopichand is trying to prove his mettle from sometime as most of his recent flicks ended up as duds. Teaming up with Srivaas who delivered ‘Lakshyam’ for him, here comes another action flick that is competing with average-biggies at box office.
The CONTENT
Venkateswarulu aka Venky (Gopichand) helps his friend (anchor Syamala) to elope from her marriage as she is in love with someone else. Her brother Baji (Sampath) gets irritated by this and starts searching for the guy helped her. To escape pressure, Venky leaves to Hyderabad from Warangal and falls in love with high-headed Chandrakala (Rakul Preet Singh), sister of notorious don Satya (Mukul Dev). After series of romantic encounters, Venky finds out that Chandrakala is sister of the girl he helped to elope. What happens to VenkyÂ’s love and he sets up things in Warangal to correct the errors is something youÂ’ll watch on silver screen.
A concoction of Ready, Dhee, Namo Venkatesa and all other noted formulas and tested commercial principles never succeeds to evince interest.
The EFFORT :
On-Screen:
Except for the fact that Gopichand got slimmer and looking quite handsome, there is nothing much he could do in this otherwise ‘boring’ character. No big emotions, no exaggerated dialogues, no stunning fights, no special body language and nothing. Probably his caliber is misused yet again.
Rakul Preet Singh is glamorous, but her ‘plastic’ expressions and ‘robotic’ dance moves evince no interest. Apart from her beautiful curvaceous figure, she needs to develop loads of acting skills to stay here for long.
Brahmanandam is regular as usual, and his histrionics are pretty much same. Had someone written better script for him, he will burst your bellies. Else, heÂ’ll burst your heads. Here in this flick, he did both at times. Tamil actor Sampath is becoming usual in Telugu flicks these days. This time his character is no powerful like a Mirchi.
Regulars like Raghubabu, Prithvi (30 years) tried to brought few laughs with routine stuff. All others just filled the screen space quite well.
Off-Screen:
Srivaas is in a quite dilemma as he fails to understand that ‘selecting’ a proper script is also the art of director. With routing fare drama selected, what could he extract from his actors? Talented performers did it in their style, while others simply did what they know. There is no magic wand from the director to add that spice.
Anup Rubens background score and songs are just okay. There is no way we could remember at least one song and one background tune while walking out from theaters. All other departments donÂ’t bother you much as youÂ’ll be lost already in this remix story and boring screenplay.
We have to talk about story writers Sridhar Seepana, Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan. These three are unable to come out of shells like Dhee, Namo Venkatesa and Ready and are trying to cook same dish with different names each time. No freshness in the script and unwanted and over-the-board rhyming punch dialogues simply irritate in Loukyam.

Time and again, director Srivas is failing to deliver something new and same is the case with Gopichand. Once again they have selected a habitual story and script, which got inspiration from many Sreenu Vytla genre movies. One wonders if this script is made from the leftover scenes of all those movies.
Movie starts like a ‘Ready’ and then becomes a regular ‘Ranam’ kind college comedy. Are you expecting a big twist now? Sorry, we don’t have one. Running on a pretty predictable note, Brahmi’s character is a big bore but his ‘copied’ ‘inspired’ dialogues of other star-heroes bring some laughs. They projected it as an action flick knows? Sorry folks, this is a comedy flick where Brahmi is lead hero and Gopichand is guest actor. Interval bang is something you won’t feel like a bang at all. And then, hero joins villains like a ‘Dhee’ and brings heroine like a ‘Ready’ and Brahmi enters comedy den like a ‘Namo Venkatesa’ and movie ends as ‘comedy dialogues’ are finished. A ‘Balupu’ ‘Power’ and ‘Don Seenu’ style climax, where comedians do the acts and hero just hits goons puts an end to this saga. By the way is this flick called ‘Loukyam’?
What’s wrong with Tollywood seriously? Despite calling big shots, these top writers haven’t cooked anything innovative. Forget new, at least they should have not pushed their hang-over of past flicks at a time when hero Gopichand is struggling for a hit. When Gopi’s strength is action, they want him to do comedy like someone else, which many wouldn’t like. Also it looked like Brahmi is first hero of the movie, and ‘30 years industry’ Prithvi is second hero, while Gopichand is a guest actor. Senseless scripts, mindless dialogues, unwanted rhyming words and known scenes, and we can’t get dialogues anymore.
