Much-anticipated film gets a nod for Supreme Court!

For the past few days, there was uncertainty over the release of the much-awaited film Gangubai Kathiawadi which stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role. A few petitions were filed against the film in the High Court which eventually reached the top court Supreme Court. The petition was filed seeking a stay on the film release.

Giving a big relief to the makers of the film, the Supreme Court made it clear that the movie can be released as per the schedule. The Apex Court also said that there is no need to change the movie title as well.

The Supreme Court made these comments while hearing a petition, that was filed by one Babu Ravji Shah, who claims to be the adopted son of Gangubai, upon whom the upcoming film is based on saying that the film is showing her mother in a bad light.

The petitioner's lawyers said that the way Gangubai is shown in the film is not good and called it defamatory. However, the arguments were countered by the lawyer who represented director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Stressing the point that the Bombay High Court had earlier said that the petitioner could not prove his identity, the counsel told the court that without watching the film, they are simply drawing assumptions. Saying that the film is based on a book, the counsel asked why the petitioner did not say any word about the book.

Having said that, the lawyer told the court that the makers cannot change the movie title now as the film is releasing tomorrow. Satisfied with the arguments, the Supreme Court said that the film can hit the theaters and there is no need to change the title too.

It has to be mentioned that, the other day, the Supreme Court had directed the makers to think about changing the movie title as a few objections were raised on the title and multiple petitions were filed.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is kind of a biopic of sex worker who goes by the same name. The story is inspired by the famous book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, written by Hussain Zaidi. Alia Bhatt is playing the title role.
