The film industry is one of the sectors that is heavily affected by this lockdown as theatres have been shut down from the past two months and shootings were also stalled. There is no work going on which is causing a lot of financial troubles.
The theatres are expected to reopen from the end of June or July. Even then, experts are not sure about the mindset of the audience as they may not risk going to public gathering spots like theatres and malls. Films releasing during this time may have the risk of not recovering its investment.
At this time, the OTT platforms are giving good deals that may not bring profits to the producers but they can avoid losses by accepting these deals. For example, a mystery thriller that was supposed to release in April got postponed. This star heroine's film was made with a budget of 12 crores and an OTT platform offered to pay 15 crores on a direct release clause.
Looking at it as a good opportunity, the film's producer is thinking of taking up this offer as per sources. Let us see if this thriller will have a direct OTT release or not.
