Amazon Release: Audience Happy, Buyers In A Fix
X
There is some debate going on the digital release of a film on platforms like Amazon Prime etc. for quite some time. While producers like Dil Raju argue that, a producer will recover some part of his investment through digital rights so nothing wrong in it, others are opposing early digital release.

When he was asked about uploading the movie even before fifty days of theatrical release he came up with a counter-argument that when piracy prints are available online from day 1, what can the filmmakers do rather than selling digital rights early? It seems he has a valid point. Unless the piracy is controlled, how can we blame the producer for early digital release?

Surprisingly, Nani-Sai Pallavi starrer 'MCA' was uploaded on Amazon prime on 28th day of its release while the movie is still running in the theaters. Amazon uploaded it on their site according to the agreement.

On the other hand, the movie was sold for high prices so the buyers were expecting some profits in the long run. Amazon upload will surely have an impact on the theatrical collections even though it is popular only in urban areas.

One way, the audience will be happy that they can legally watch the movie early, the other way producer is also happy because he made some amount by selling digital rights. But the buyers are at the receiving end because they are losing money unable to benefit from the long run.
