GoI Not Keen To Censor Content On OTT Platforms
By: Tupaki Desk | 19 Nov 2019 1:24 PM GMTGovernment of India decided not to Censor the content provided on the OTT Apps such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hotstar, Zee5 and Others. Instead, Centre is keen to support self-regulation of the content streamed online.
Secretary to Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) Amit Khare made this announcement at the CII Big Picture Summit 2019. He told Central Government doesn't want to Censor content streamed via OTT Platforms for now. This statement comes as a huge relief to the OTT Industry which is growing bigger day-by-day.
Amit Khare: 'Centre held consultations with the OTT Players operating from Mumbai and Chennai in the past. We are working on a Self-Regulation System for the OTT Industry'.
For Filmmakers, OTT is a great platform to explore the creativity to the fullest. They needn't have to worry about the Censor issues or Mutes any longer if they prefer the digital platforms. Even the Government doesn't want to impose any restrictions considering the target audience of the OTT Apps.
