The Covid pandemic has done both good and bad things to the entertainment sector. The bad thing is that the theatres across the nation were shut for around one year and the film shootings were also suspended. In simple words, the film industry came to a standstill with the pandemic impact.

Talking about the good thing, the OTT platforms got the required momentum to spread their wings. The misfortune of the film theatres worked well for the OTT platforms as they became the one-stop destination for entertainment lovers. The space created by the pandemic created a good situation that new platforms like Aha came into force.

Thanks to the pandemic, India became one of the big markets for OTT platforms. However, India is also a tough market to crack as leading OTT platform like Netflix is failing to increase its footprints in the country.

To show how India is a tough market, one American-based platform is seeing super success while another platform based in the same nation is unable to foray into the nation and the platform is losing its subscribers at a rapid phase.

The American-based platform which failed to crack the Indian market is Netflix. It is struggling to retain the subscribers who are leaving it at a rapid pace. No matter how hard the platform is trying, the subscribers are leaving the platform. Not just in India, the same is the case around the world for the platform with Netflix.

Disney Media's Indian division OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar is in terrific form as far as the subscribers are concerned. The platform has the highest number of subscribers for any platform in India.

The reason behind Disney+ Hotstar seeing super success is the variety of content it offers to the subscribers. Not just films, the platform offers content like talk shows, Marvel originals, and animated films.

Animated films are watched by the kids more and for that, the parents of the kids take the subscriptions and they too watch films when they get the free time. Data shows that the Disney+ Hotstar platform tops the list with as many as 14 crore subscribers, followed by Amazon Prime(6 crores), Netflix( 4 crores), Zee5(3.7 crores), and Sonyliv(2.5 crores).
